HP's discontinues TouchPad - Retailers go on a selling spree at $99.

Hewlett-Packard discontinued operation for devices running on webOS, including its newly launched TouchPad and smartphones  last week (18Aug) due to low sales.

The announcement marked the death of WenOS, which won critical acclaim but little commercial success over the past few years.

with its sudden demise after just seven weeks on shelves, the TouchPad joins Dell Streak 5 in the graveyard and analysts suggest others are bound to follow.

Other tablets that have failed to impress consumers include Asustek Computer Eee Pad Transformer and the Xoom from Motorola Mobility.

However, as a result, the TouchPad received possibly one of the most dramatic price cuts in all of tablet computer history - its 16GB and 32GB versions going at just $99 and $149 early Saturday (20th Aughst).

Some consumers were skeptical about rushing on for the great bargain over the TouchPad based on the now discontinued webOS. However, HP's one-year warranty plan and the dirt cheap price tag sill created a tablet buying frenzy over the weekend.
